"A DIVERSITY DEFICIT WEAKENS THE QUALITY OF JUSTICE"

Geoffrey Bindman QC and Karon Monaghan QC

OUR CORE PRINCIPLES

Equal Access to Opportunity

We at State2Bar recognise that those who attend a state school often have limited or reduced opportunities in comparison to their peers who are educated privately. This means that those who are state educated are unequivocally disadvantaged when applying for Mini–Pupillages and later Pupillage. We will work towards ensuring that those who are state educated are afforded equal access to opportunities.

Advocacy

Through policy research and design, we wish to influence and advocate on behalf of those who are state educated to create fair and just opportunities and policies within chambers and beyond.

Collaborative Working

State2Bar acknowledges the fantastic work conducted by chambers, professionals, charities and university societies. We wish to work collaboratively with existing organisations and individuals to further enhance opportunities and increase social mobility at the bar.

Education

Accessible and clear information is needed to aspire the next generation of state-educated barristers. State2Bar acknowledges that there is a lack of transparency surrounding the bar. We will therefore provide students with the knowledge needed to succeed. State2Bar will support both University students and A – Level students.

Community

State2Bar is run by the community it aims to support. We are run by state-educated students, also focused on the legal industry, and hence have a thorough understanding of the needs of our members. Our focus in on connecting state-educated students who aspire to join the bar across the country. Additionally, we recognise that our members are our charity and thus we want their voices to shape the future of State2Bar.

Who do we support?

Russell and Non-Russell Group University students that have attended state education/academies at any point during their compulsory educational career.

A-Level students who attend a state-funded school, academy, or college.
